Getting Started

Sometimes when you get into a hobby, something else evolves. Sometimes it’s with great intention. Others, it’s by complete accident. Sometimes, that accident is so good, so positive, that it should be called an “on purpose.”

The hobby was BBQ, the art of smoking meat slow and low. Like anything else, there was a learning curve. Like anything else, a sincere interest in something makes you want to put the time in to get better. After many sessions of trial and error, the hobby has become a passion. Food is something we all need to stay alive. Great food is something we all crave. As the old saying goes, “if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.”

BBQ is a great way to spend quality time with family and friends because after all, it takes a long time to cook. No 3 minute “scarf and barf” microwave meals here. The best part of all is seeing the look of enjoyment of everyone’s faces when they are biting into those deliciously tender ribs, the perfectly flavored chicken, and the fall apart brisket. Everyone knows that they have been treated to an awesome BBQ flavor explosion, and before that last bite is swallowed, everyone wants to know when the next cookout will be.

BBQ is such a versatile cooking method, and most importantly, it’s portable. Much quality time has been spent at many a campground, perfecting our craft, and just enjoying the process, enjoying nature, enjoying that moment. It’s food with a purpose.

What has evolved out of BBQ has been an equal, and at first, unknown love for coffee. Coffee was not a part of the initial plan, because like most, we didn’t feel that we could replicate what was being served in the cafes. Little did we know how untrue that was.

BBQ and beer are two items that have always been a strong pairing. BBQ and coffee are equally formidable, and the quest for the perfect cup is what it’s all about. Both BBQ and coffee are no easy feats, and quite difficult to master. The adventure and challenge of it all is what makes it fun.

With coffee being one of the most daily consumed beverages in the world, what perhaps many years ago was just a way to get a jolt of energy that quite frankly was not known for how well it tasted, is now just as popular of a social engagement as food. Coffee has evolved into its own culture and community, where for those who drink it for its flavors and complexities, brew it as a craft beverage.

Q’d & Brew’d are two friends that started with a desire and intention to learn how to BBQ, and by accident discovered that they equally love quality coffee. Why not do both?
